Calgary offers a truly spectacular setting. You will feel the energy generated from the heart of Calgary, one of the fastest growing cities in Canada. Nestled against the foothills of the majestic Canadian Rockies, Calgary is “The Heart of the New West”, a thriving business centre and vibrant community. From city attractions to the panoramic scenery of the mountains and exotic dinosaur beds, Calgary and area provide diverse landscapes, once-in-a-lifetime activities, and unforgettable adventures.

The Science

Calgary is an active centre of excellence for training and research in child and adolescent mental health, a centre that is continually redefining and redesigning itself to serve the needs of the community it serves. Examples abound.

  • A new regional children’s mental health intake service allows greater integration with the community clinics, specialized outpatient services and inpatient units in the city.
  • A new Children’s Hospital was built with increased capacity for inpatient mental health services including those with significant neuro-developmental problems. Developed services include an Adolescent Urgent Team and an Adolescent Day Treatment Program.
  • Calgary is initiating an intensive educational program for rural physicians and practitioners, promoting aboriginal mental health, and increasing assessment and treatment for substance-abuse disorders.

In short, Calgary is committed to maintaining an active centre for training and research in children’s mental health issues.
